Building Competent & Confident Learners
We believe that all children must have the opportunity to take part in a broad range of PE, sport and physical activity opportunities. We deliver an ambitious PE curriculum that inspires all students to succeed in sport and PE.
At Key Stage 1 (Year 1 & 2), children develop fundamental movement skills and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They are given the opportunity to engage in competitive and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations. House points are awarded in every lesson with a winner announced every half-term.
Children learn to enjoy competing and working in teams with peers. They develop an understanding of how to improve, evaluate and learn from their successes and weaknesses.
All our classes follow the Sports Education Model which allows teachers to assist and guide students to construct their own learning experience. These experiences and outcomes progress and expand a student’s capability to undertake diverse roles and responsibilities within a sport rather than simply performing. Sports Education targets to enhance confidence, responsibilities, leadership and communication.
At Key Stage 1, the PE Department identifies talented students who are invited to a development squad in football, swimming, basketball, netball, athletics and dance. This prepares them for competitions in Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to 6).
