Learning through Play
The EYFS curriculum is based on a philosophy of learning through play and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of the National Curriculum of England. Teachers plan engaging, imaginative activities and experiences which are unique to each child’s development. These opportunities link to the 7 areas of learning:
We develop children’s Personal, Social and Emotional Development through our unique Positive Education programme. We build on a child’s character strengths and nurture their wellbeing as well as develop their academic abilities.
We develop children’s Communication and Language skills by providing an environment where children are encouraged to speak, listen and express themselves in a range of situations.
We develop children’s Literacy skills through a range of opportunities from learning phonics and phonemic awareness; learning to hear and identify sounds; and learning to read and write words. Children have unlimited access to resources and are individually supported to develop their writing skills.
In our ongoing efforts to develop children physically and mentally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, we ensure Physical Development by providing a range of active sports and activities indoor and outdoors. Children also learn about healthy eating and self-care through their daily routines and trips to the school canteen.
We develop children’s Mathematic skills through a range of number and problem solving opportunities, alongside shape and measurement activities.
Understanding the World supports children to make sense of the world around them. We provide a range of opportunities for children to investigate, experiment and explore their indoor and outdoor environments.
We develop children’s creativity through Expressive Arts & Design activities. Children paint and draw expressing themselves and letting their imagination explore. Children also learn music, developing their cognitive abilities by discovering and exploring a variety of musical instruments (during their specialist music sessions each week).
