Making the move from Primary to Secondary? Here’s how we do it!

Transitioning from Primary to Secondary school is a time of excitement and anxiety. Children have to adapt to a more challenging school setting with different academic structures and expectations as well as changes in social interactions with teachers and peers.

As part of the Fortes Education Family, all Year 6 Graduates from Regent International School have a guaranteed seat at Sunmarke School. The new surroundings, new friends, new challenges, and new choices become a little less challenging as your child’s Regent Class Teacher has explained to us each child’s strengths. We understand every child’s individual capabilities and are gearing up to commence their successful onward educational journey.

At Sunmarke, your child will be part of our Positive Education ethos, high-quality, values based approach and multi-pathways curriculum model will be on offer. We are proud to offer a wide range of curriculum pathways, which cater for the diverse needs and interests of 21st century learners. We offer the National Curriculum for England and the GCSE and A Level programmes. BTEC qualifications are now available for students in Years 10-13, in addition to select ASDAN Short Courses and preparing for Adulthood programmes. Sunmarke is also a candidate school* pursuing authorisation as an IB World School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme.

Sunmarke is an inclusive school and this is something of which we are very proud. Being an inclusive school means that our student population is made up of boys and girls, and young men and women, of different abilities, learnings styles, interests, self-esteem and aspirations. By introducing this multi-pathway model we empower our students with bespoke post-16 course selections to find the most appropriate route to study the subject of their choice at the university or college of their choice. The multi-pathway model also allows students to go straight into the world of work if this is an option alongside their further higher education studies.

At Sunmarke, there are numerous opportunities where students and their families engage with the school to discuss the progress being made, their current academic performance, and their career and academic aspirations. Building on from these meetings with a team of highly experienced staff including career counsellors students are guided, in conjunction with their families, into the most appropriate pathway to fulfill their future dreams and goals.
