Our Pledges to Parents & Students
RIS makes five pledges to parents and students. The school continuously reviews the metrics below to set higher benchmarks and better meet its pledges.
Pledge 1: Quality of Leadership
-
Members of our Senior Management Team (SMT) and Middle Management Team (MMT), are dedicated educationalists who are carefully selected. They have experience in administering international schools that use the National Curriculum (UK). Teachers and Teaching Assistants (TA’s) are also carefully selected to deliver the school’s curriculum. We pledge to uphold the high quality of our staff and to improve the expertise of the staff through continuous professional development.
-
SMT conducts regular self-evaluation (SEF) of the school's strengths and weaknesses using the Dubai School’s Inspection Bureau (DSIB) Quality Framework. The SEF underpins our School Improvement Plan (SIP), which drives the school forward. We pledge to continuously improve our ratings in the SEF and DISB reports.
-
We believe our children and parents should have opportunities to provide feedback to the school and staff performance via communication channels and surveys, which we pledge to continuously improve.
Pledge 2: Quality of Learning
-
Internal and inspection indicators show that all our lessons are "good or better" when judged against DSIB criteria. We pledge to improve the quality of the education we deliver.
-
Our lesson delivery is standardised to include detailed planning; monitored delivery; assessment and review of learning; learning focuses; cross-curricular links; and target-setting.
-
Staff members are observed regularly and frequently. Specific individual feedback and regular training is given to staff so that quality of teaching and learning is constantly improving.
-
Teaching staff members willingly participate in student and parental surveys rating their own performance management.
-
We encourage children throughout the school to work cooperatively and collaboratively.
-
We encourage children to think critically and to apply their learning in other settings.
-
We pledge to improve all of the above key metrics to improve the quality of learning delivered to our students.
Pledge 3: Quality of Pastoral Care
-
Our pastoral care is reported as being "outstanding" by the DSIB inspection team.
-
We track our children's behaviour thoroughly and motivate them through a system based around rewards.
-
Staff members hold regular meetings where an individual child's concerns can be raised, and preventative strategies are shared.
-
We look after our children from the moment they get on our school bus (or are dropped off), until the moment they arrive home (or are collected).
-
RIS is a safe school - we aim to keep parents informed at all stages.
-
We pledge to improve the above metrics to improve the quality of pastoral care delivered to our students.
Pledge 4: Quality of Parental Partnership
-
We work in partnership with parents and provide a wide spectrum of activities and support for our children and their parents.
-
Our elected body of parent representatives actively participate in school life. They promote greater parental involvement in their children's education.
-
Parents are also involved as partners in setting targets for children.
-
We pledge to improve the metrics above to better the quality of parental partnership.
Pledge 5: Quality of Academic Rigour
-
All students are regularly assessed formatively and summatively. We track and assess our children against National Curriculum (UK) criteria.
-
We report assessments results to parents a 5 times per year.
-
We track assessment data. Our data analysis informs our future teaching.
-
Our curriculum model is innovative and detailed. It reflects recent educational developments, such as Assessing Pupil Progress (APP), Assessment for Learning (AFL) and other strategies.
-
Our curriculum is regularly reviewed and reported to parents.
-
Targets are prominently displayed. We use self and peer assessment strategies for children to evaluate their work and enhance their learning.
-
We pledge to improve the metrics above to better the quality of academic rigour.
